Text Difference Checker

Find added, removed and unchanged lines in two versions of text.

Legend: + added line, − removed line, a blank prefix means unchanged. Compares whole lines, not individual words.

How the text difference checker works

Paste an earlier version on the left and a newer version on the right, then select Compare text. The output marks removed lines with - and added lines with +. Unchanged lines are retained for context.

Example

If your original says Version one and your revision says Version two, you will see one removed line and one added line.

Limitations

This tool uses line-level longest-common-subsequence comparison. It preserves whitespace and punctuation. For responsiveness it limits each side to 500 lines and 100,000 characters. It does not compare Word documents or images.

Practical example: Reviewing a revised paragraph

Paste an original draft on the left and the revised draft on the right. Compare the highlighted line additions and removals.

What to check before using the result

This is a line-oriented comparison. A small change inside a line may show the whole line as changed.
